Privacy policy
WhenPlant is designed to collect as little as possible.
ZIP codes
When you enter a ZIP code, it is sent to phzmapi.org to look up your hardiness zone, and stored only in your own browser (localStorage) so the tool can remember it next time. We do not store your ZIP on our servers or tie it to your identity.
Use my location
If you tap “Use my location”, your browser asks for permission and gives the page your approximate position. The page uses it only on your device to find the nearest ZIP code in a list it downloads from this site; your position is never sent to us or stored.
Analytics
We use Cloudflare Web Analytics, which is cookieless and sets nothing in your browser.
We also use Google Analytics 4 and Microsoft Clarity to see which pages are useful, in aggregate. Both set first-party cookies, and Clarity additionally records anonymised page interactions such as clicks and scrolling.
Because we do not show a cookie banner, Microsoft Clarity is not loaded at all for visitors in the EEA, the United Kingdom or Switzerland. The page asks Cloudflare, which serves this site, which country the connection comes from (a request to our own domain; nothing is stored), and if it is one of those regions, or cannot be read at all, the Clarity script is never requested.
Ask Amili
Questions typed into Ask Amili are stored anonymously (the question text only, no IP address or cookie) to improve our answers.
We do not use analytics to identify you by name, and we do not sell personal information.
Affiliate links
Some links to garden supplies go to Amazon and carry an affiliate tag. If you buy through them we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Amazon may set its own cookies when you visit their site.
Pages also show one small Amazon product ad, marked Sponsored. Its photo loads from Amazon's image server (m.media-amazon.com) and its price comes from Amazon's product API through our own server, refreshed at most hourly. It sets no cookies of ours.
